Our Hereford Beef

Cato Poll is renowned for breeding the highest quality Hereford Cattle and helping to preserve and promote this strong pedigree. We invest years in developing cattle that take the best attributes from our herds and can contribute to the Hereford name in the future. From spotting a suitable heifer and allowing her to run with a bull, to producing a calf that is ready to carry on the Cato Poll genetics can take up to 4 years of our time and investment.

But, as well as breeding and showing our cattle and continuing the Cato Poll lines, we also place great importance on fattening our steers to enter the food chain. Demand for high quality Hereford beef is growing in the UK and across the globe, and we are proud to be part of that initiative.  Our steers have been grass fed and traditionally reared, and the meat is supplied through a number of renowned supermarkets around the country.

The quality of our beef is our way of knowing how well we are doing; our checking mechanism. We can produce the finest looking Hereford cattle in the world, but the meat we produce needs to be tender, to taste good and be of the quality that people have come to expect from Hereford beef. It is an on-going process, and an important part of our farm’s operation to monitor our success.
