Cato Poll young handler triumphs at National Show

A fledgling young handler for Cato Poll Herefords has gained an award for his performance at a prestigious cattle show.

Tom Dixon, age 13, took part in the competition for Young Hereford Members, organised by the Hereford Cattle Society at the National Poll Show on 2 September 2016.  Tom competed against other young handlers under the age of 15 and was awarded First Place with a red prize card by Mr Michael Church, the judge.

“Our stockman Chris Richens has been instrumental in helping our young handlers to develop the skill and confidence to handle our herd,” said Jonathan Moorhouse, owner of Cato Poll Herefords.  “To gain recognition at this young age is a huge benefit for those considering a career in cattle breeding and we hope that Tom will continue to grow and flourish with us.”

Each Young Member competing in either competition was given a souvenir plaque to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the National Poll Show.
